Oxy-biodegradable additive products

It is a plastic product that receives a special additive from metals such as cobalt, manganese or iron in very small quantities.

This additive initiates an accelerated decomposition of plastic through the activation by sunlight and rainwater. Plastic in this way, which originally would take 400 years to degrade in the environment, begins to decompose in 3 to 10 years.

The percentage of additive can be adapted, and the rate of degradation occurs between 3 to 10 years. ELC usually works with a 7 year degradation period.

The biodegradable plastic additive can be detected by special equipment, which guarantees the quality of the product. In addition, the manufacturer holds an audit with the customers to certify there are no discrepancies in the addition of the additive, avoiding fraud.

ELC is approved in oxy-biodegradable technology by companies: Symphony d2w (England) and Willow Ridge. (USA)
The intermediate product of oxy-biodegradable plastic degradation is the micro particulate plastic that can be absorbed by the marine life, so it is not recommended to dispose this product in the sea.

Oxy-biodegradable additive products follow the standards ASTM 6954 and BS 8472.

Post consumer recycled plastic envelopes (PCR) are made with materials collected from end users, promoting the reuse of raw materials and reducing plastic waste in the environment.

The PCR products manufactured at ELC uses up to 75% of the post-consumer content.

Our PCR products are certified by the EUCertPlast. This guarantees a good performance and reliability of the final properties of the product (mechanical and chemical).

Our PCR products also have a seal certified by ISO 14021.

PCR USE

Enzymatic biodegradable additive products

This product line receives a conventional plastic additive as is done in the oxy-biodegradable. This additive, which contains no heavy metals, is a mixture of vegetable oils and other organic compounds that are metabolized by microorganisms.

The species contained in the additive will bind to the plastic matrix allowing its degradation by the enzymes of these same microorganisms. This allows the enzymatically added plastic to degrade in the absence of light and water, conditions commonly found inside sanitary landfills.

The rate of degradation of products added with enzyme is a little slower than with other methods; however, the product with this additive is the least eco-toxic that can be found among conventional plastics with additives.

ELC is certified in this technology by Bio-Tec (USA).

Tests are performed according to from Norm ASTM D5208 to Norm ASTM 5511.

What is the circular economy?

 

That is ELC's philosophy- The circular economy is sustainable.

Circular economy is a concept based on the intelligence of nature. Residues are inputs for the production of new products. It entails gradually decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources, and designing waste out of the system. It is based on three principles: Design out waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use and regenerate natural systems.
A circular economy is the essence that rethinks economics customs that aims to keep products and materials in circulation taking advantage of the maximum value and usefulness between technical and biological stages.
The over-exploitation of natural resources required to achieve economic growth and development has had a negative impact on the environment while also causing these resources to become scarcer and costlier. So it’s easy to see why the idea of a circular economy that offers new ways to create a more sustainable economic growth model is taking hold across the globe.
The circular economy influences the cyclical concepts of nature where all materials as plants, water or food are completely reused by the environment. In the environment, all remains of fruit consumed by animals, decompose and become fertilizer for plants. This concept is also called “cradle to cradle”. There is no idea of waste and everything is continually nutritious for a new cycle.

Circular Economy

Definition

The concept of circular economy is not only based on the conception of the three “R” s - repair, reuse and recycle, because it joins the sustainable model with the technological and commercial movement of the current world.
The circular economy project includes the creation of repair, reuse and remanufacturing systems, in addition to effective recycling, in which raw materials maintain or even increase their value.

The different types of recycling cycles

 

Closed loop

It is characterized by the return of a given product, from which the constituent material is extracted selectively for the manufacture product similar to the original.

Open loop

Its main characteristic is the return of materials such as metals, plastics, glass, papers, packaging and others to the production chain in the form of raw materials.

Downcycling

It is the process of a recovering a material for reuse in a product with less value. The integrity of the material is somewhat compromised with the recovery process.
